Default Foote Control Systems (FCS) P3500

Distortion mode (all timing constants switched out) in FB (feedback) mode is awesome on some mixes. Much more elegant sounding and controllable than FF mode, especially with sidechain HPF in. Or if you like the recent flaming Lips distortion sound, keep it set FF.

My current easy method:

Gain at unity, ratio 2:1, set threshold for a few db reduction, then raise gain to desired fuzz (gain interacts with compression in FB mode), retweak ratio to taste.

Good for single tracks too.

Great review of the rack mount version, the P3S, in the current issue of TapeOp. Only difference compared to the stereo P3500S setup is that the rack mount has output transformers which can be switched in or out. The transformers there are too big to actually fit in a 500 series piece, even by themselves!

Link to a link with a scan. Mag is only print.
